Change time stamp in Buddypress Chat

Buddypress Chat is not taking the time stamp from Wordpress, it is pulling it from the server instead. How do I tell it to pull from wordpress instead? Is there a code snippet I can add to my snippets list? (hoping my host tells me how to change the server time too, but hoping for a snippet workaround from you if they don't let me change the server time)

I'm on a shared server, so the server's time can't be changed. They told me to change the php time zone but that didn't affect your plugin's time stamp either. It still shows the time as of the location of the shared server, not the wordpress time/date stamp I set in general settings of my wordpress dashboard. If you have a code snippet available that would pull the correct time from wordpress rather than the shared server, that would be awesome!

Time in the BuddyPress Chat plugin is showing GMT time and there are currently no snippets to solve this quickly.

Your suggestion is totally on the spot and we may include option for the GMT offset in one of the future plugin versions.
